San Juan National Historic Site.
The fortification system in San Juan, Puerto Rico, was built by the Spaniards in the early 16th century. It is the oldest European construction in the United States and one of the oldest in the 'NewWorld'. the forts protected the entrance of the San Juan Bay and allowed Spain to control access and commerce into the Caribbean until the Spanish-American War in 1898.
San Juan National Historic Site protects Fort San Felipe del Morro Fort San Cristobal ( the largest fortification built by the Spaniards in America), Fort San Juan de la Cruz and more than two miles of city wall. Projecting strength and power, the forts of Old San Juan are some of the finest examples of Spanish military engineering in the United States. It is also a World Heritage Site......check another one off the list!!

Just back......
We are just back from a great trip to Puerto Rico. Taking time to go and see part of the island and one of it's major attractions. But first the beach(?). It was only about 6 feet wide at low tide. A major disappointment but.....we still spent a day sitting on the grass, listening to the sounds! (If you are going to the Gran Melia for the beach....don't)
The ocean was beautiful. I could have just sat and listened every day....but we needed to get on the go and see..........
El Morro....was really interesting. We loved reading all the informational plaques and learned some of Puerto Rico's history.
The walk up was long....next time we will take the trolly!
More information and pictures as the days go by. This is one place that we would like to go back to and spend a lot more time seeing the whole island and more of the history.

Thank you!
To all who have and do serve....Thank you every day. It is because of all who have taken the pledge to defend their country, that we are able to enjoy the freedom and pursue our dreams every day.

Hermann, Missouri
We were going to an auction.....but on the way ended in Hermann, Missouri.
Oktoberfest is going on and there are tons and tons of 'college age party-ers'.
We have to return when we have more time and really look around.
It was way to crowded to visit any of the wineries but....
We still had a good lunch....
listened to good music.....
and had a great time.

Roads.........
My road calls me,
lures me west,
east,
south
and north.
Most roads lead men homewards,
my road leads me forth.
